David
Michael Long was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on July 29, 1948 to
Cornelius “Pat” and Mary “Minnie” (Davis) Long. He passed from this life
on October 27, 2019, from Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years 2
months and 28 days.
David’s early education was attained at attending Freewater, Wauhillau, and Robert Trapp Elementary Schools and was a graduate of Stilwell High School. He would go on to receive his Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree at Northeastern State University.
David wore many hats during his time here on earth, he was an ordained minister, English teacher at both Stilwell Junior and Senior High Schools, he taught Freshman Composition at Northeastern State University, was Office Manager over the Motorpool, and Custodial Departments at Northeastern State, a Sales Clerk at Drysdale’s in Tulsa, and did Gardening and landscaping at ORU in Tulsa and Cedar Lakes in Wichita, Kansas.
David was reared in and accepted Christ in the Freewater Baptist Church in Stilwell at an early age and his faith never wavered.
He cared about kids and worked with them in both capacities of school and church. He was also a talented vocalist and pianist also and put those talents to use serving as youth director and FCA sponsor in Wichita.
David sang in many musical groups and was nominated as male Vocalist/ Instrumentalist/ and Promoter of the year from 1998-2000 for the Country Gospel Music Association. In 2003 he served as Board Member for the Academy of Gospel Music, Tennessee.
He was a member of numerous professional affiliations, and enjoyed sports…..especially basketball.
David was preceded in death by his parents Minnie and Pat Long; and two brothers, Roger Dale, Cornelius Jr, George, Nophaie and Lewis; sister, Clara Workman; and a special lady in his life, Jayne Ann McClure.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Nofire; and brothers, JC Long and wife Charline of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Steve Long and wife Margie of Stilwell, Oklahoma; many extended family members, friends and loved ones and will be missed greatly.
