Obituary

Jackie Marie Kerns (Beaty), daughter of Lino and Jane(Williams) Beaty, was born April 2,1941 in Nowata County, Oklahoma and departed this life on February 15, 2020 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Jackie loved life and loved her family, spending time with her grand babies gave her the greatest joy. She was devout in her faith and always attended church functions and bible studies. Jackie was involved in relay for life as well as the Alzheimer’s relays. She spent her free time doing crossword puzzles, playing games on her tablet and watching her soaps she also looked forward to family vacations. Jackie loved baking and her specialty were her peanut butter cookies which, was a recipe that was passed down to her. She also enjoyed and tried to attend all her grandchildren’s school and sports functions. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother; Ralph Beaty and sister; Mary Heckard.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her daughters April Harless and husband Brian of Tahlequah, OK and Debbie Mabry and husband Dan of El Segundo, CA, sister; Rdella Benning of Tahlequah, OK, brothers; Leon Beaty of Jarrell, TX and Lou Wedding of Tahlequah, OK, grandchildren; Haley Harless, Taylor Harless, Timothy Mabry and Joshua Mabry. Several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive her.

Lindsey Dawn Hosley Downing, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at her home in Tahlequah. Lindsey was born in Muskogee on Independence Day in 1976 to Cecilia Ann (Roark) Woodall and James Michael Woodall.

She was a loving mother of four; Kelsi Celeste Camden, James Alec Downing, William Tyler Downing and the apple of her eye, Chloe Jane Downing. Lindsey was passionate about her family and enjoyed photography, animals, and loved the outdoors. She had a creative heart, crafting blankets, baking cakes, anything she could do to make her loved ones feel special. If you liked it, she loved it! She loved the fireworks every year on her birthday.

Lindsey and Kelly own My Place BBQ in Tahlequah where Lindsey worked for many years. She worked very hard for her family. She was a natural hostess and had the heart to serve others, always making her coworkers and customers feel like family.

She is survived by her husband, William Kelly Downing, her four children, her sister Katie, brother Ryan, and many other friends and family.

A memorial service for Lindsey Dawn Downing will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Hart Funeral Home.

 It is with great sadness that I post this obituary. Lindsey was a wonderful person. I shared much laughter with her at My Place Barbecue over the years. She was funny and sweet and kind.

Obituary - Isabel Baker May 27, 1929 ~ September 2, 2019

Dr. Isabel Louise Keith Baker, age 90 passed away peacefully on September 2, 2019. She was the daughter of Claude and Hattie Mae Keith and was born on May 27, 1929 in Row, Oklahoma later named Colcord.

She married her husband Tim Baker on July 26, 1946 and they were the proud parents of three sons Tim K., Donn and Bill John Baker.

For over forty-three (43) years, Dr. Isabel Baker served in public education. Her teaching career began in 1950 at the age of twenty (20), after she received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeastern State University. Isabel was twenty-three (23) with three children when she received her master’s degree

from OSU. She later received her Doctorate from Oklahoma State University. Her public-school career has included positions at Shidler, Sapulpa and Tahlequah. In Higher Education, she taught at Morehead State University, Northeastern State University and Oklahoma State University.

She was appointed to the Oklahoma State University Board of Regents by Governor David Walters in 1991. She was recognized as a champion of gender equality and was the recipient of several awards for those endeavors. She was a member of Oklahoma Woman’s Hall of Fame, Oklahoma State University Hall of Fame, Distinguished Alumnus at OSU, Oklahoma Mother of the Year and many other honorary awards. Dr. Baker served on the Board of Directors of the Tahlequah Chamber of Commerce and was selected as a Board Member of the Year in 2010. She also served as a Board of Director with the Bank of Cherokee County and was the first woman in sixty years to serve as a Board Director with Tahlequah Public Works. In addition to her tireless work for her church she held many state and national offices with the Democratic Party. For a girl that grew up in the depression, she relished the opportunity to help others lift themselves up out of poverty through education.

She was a lifelong resident of Tahlequah and will be missed by many. In addition to her surviving brother Bill Keith and his wife Vivian, she leaves her son Tim Keith and his wife Diana, Donn and his wife Sharon and Bill John and his wife Sherry. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
