Obituary - Gregory "George" Isaac Smith April 24, 1934 – July 4, 2019 Updated

Gregory "George" Isaac Smith

April 24, 1934 – July 4, 2019

Obituary of Gregory "George" Isaac Smith
Funeral services for Gregory “George” Isaac Smith will be held at Swimmer Church on Tuesday July 9th, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Brother Sam Keener officiating. He will be laid to rest at Swimmer Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday July 8th, 2019 at Reed-Culver Funeral Home from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Online condolences may be left at www.reedculver.com.
Pallbearers for George include Sookie Pigeon, Justin Smith, Anthony Pigeon, Jamie Smith, Boozer Pigeon, and Jaime Trevino. Honorary pallbearers include Rex Smith, Dino Smith and Mike Brown of Lost City, OK. Gregory Isaac Smith, or George to his family and friends, was born on Tuesday, April 24, 1934 in Gideon, OK. He was raised by his Pop, John Osage and Ida (Whitekiller) Smith and was the son of Patrick Smith. He had three brothers and three sisters, and attended Chilocco Indian School. He graduated and then began his college studies. He met a lovely young lady, Jackie Louise Smith and together, they had three sons and one daughter. They were together 51 years. George worked in construction, and could build and weld with the best. When he wasn’t working, he could be found golfing a round, fishing or hunting a deer. He was always working on something around the home place, trying to make it run better. When the season changes to fall, there was no finer OU fan than George and he was the same with the Sequoyah Indian Athletes. He often grabbed his granddaughter Carolina, and headed to the fishing hole, they spent the day picking on one another, and he never missed a chance to cheer her on at competitive swim meets. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was the person that everyone knew. He loved people, and talked to everyone he knew or didn’t know for that matter. When the summer rolled around, he couldn’t wait until the family would all gather together and do a BBQ, spending the day telling stories. He was easy going, and didn’t have a mean bone in his body. He passed from this life on Thursday, July 4th, 2019 in Tahlequah, OK, with his family by his side. He was 85 years old.
He is preceded in death by his son, Michael James Smith, father, mother, brothers Hastings Smith Shade and Pidgeon Keener and his wife Maggie, sisters, Evelyn Downing and her husband Cornelius and Edna Foster and her husband Bob, and grandchildren Cody Isaac Smith, Ethan Issac Smith and Cheyanna Smith.
He is survived by his wife Jackie Louise Smith of the home in Hulbert, sons, Johnny Lee Smith of Hulbert, OK, Jody Isaac Smith of Hulbert, OK, and daughter Georgette Ingrid Smith of Tahlequah, OK. George leaves his brother Joe Dee Smith, and sister Beverly Joann Shoaf and husband Vernon of OR, grandchildren Carolina Sa-Ki-Ya Smith of Tahlequah, OK, Holli Smith of Wyoming, Autumn Smith of Wyoming two other grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

Obituary for Joyce Earline Gay

Joyce Earline Gay was born March 11, 1936 to parents (Buster) Golden Frank and Lena Rose Hodge Brandon in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She departed this life on June 29, 2019 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years 3 months and 19 days.
Joyce grew up in and graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, CA in the year 1954. She married her lifelong friend and sweetheart George Edd Gay at the Hitchin’ Post Chapel in Las Vegas on August 28th, 1954. Joyce enrolled in college but was unable to attend as she soon found out her career was to be a mother to her children, as well as, the mother to many other children in the family. She and George opened up their home providing family members with a place to live, meals to eat, cars and transportation, and she was always available to babysit. Joyce always had a warm lap to be rocked to sleep and could often be found down in the floor playing with the kids. Through the years Joyce’s husband was gone out of town working leaving her to raise their children. Joyce was an A+ homemaker, her home was always immaculately clean, and she had a green thumb that was hard to beat. She could make a big meal out of seemingly nothing and have it on the table every night by 6pm. Sometimes she made special dishes for the grand children like yellow cakes, homemade rolls, or her famous pineapple upside down cake. She loved to laugh, to tell stories, and to play practical jokes, she once made a special dish for her granddaughter called “dirty sock soup.” She taught her children morals, values and responsibility and sometimes that came at a price on our backside. She is loved and highly respected by her children and grandchildren as they realize they are who they are today because of her strength.
Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband George Edd Gay and her brother Golden Frank Brandon. Jr.
Joyce is survived by a loving family which includes her children Jorja Calico and husband Jay of Tahlequah, Richmond Gay and wife Linda of Tahlequah, her sister Becky Hawks of Tahlequah, and 5 grandchildren: K. Aaron Grant of Fayetteville, AR, Ashley Grant of Tahlequah, Christopher Gay, Jason Gay and Mark Gay of Tahlequah. As well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends.
