Obituary for Joe Benge
Funeral
services for Joe Benge, 83, of Hulbert are 10:00 am Saturday March 7,
2020 at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Brother Bobby
Botts. Serving as pallbearers are Steve Fort, Ricky Carey, Justin Adams,
Dakota Keys, Denim Adams, and Kyle Jenkins. Interment will follow in
the Holland Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
Joe Benge was born at Greenleaf on February 2, 1937, to Ross and Florence (Hutching) Benge. He passed away on March 2, 2020, at his residence in Hulbert.
At the age of 4, he and his family moved to the Norwood area by team and wagon. He attended Norwood through the 8th grade finishing in 1950. Joe earned his GED later in life.
Joe entered the US Air Force at the age of 17 and served 3 ½ years. Following his honorable discharge he married Della Rogers in Tahlequah over 60 years ago.
He began a career at Fort Gibson Dam transferring to Locke and Dam 17 on the Verdigris River. He retired after 32 years.
Joe enjoyed attending sporting events of all his children and their children. He enjoyed any and everything that was “family” oriented.
He loved singing and would hum constantly. When traveling he would veer off the blacktop and take the scenic route.
He helped his neighbors allowing them to use borrow from his garage as if they were family. His family and friends were very important to him and Joe showed them all in his personal way.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Florence (Hutching) Benge; four siblings, Lucille Edwards, Jimmie Huff, Theadore Benge and Joann Benge; his nephew Franklin (Bub) Jenkins; sons-in-law Steve Reed and Richard Rhodes.
He is survived by his wife, Della Benge of the home; daughters, Kathy Davis and husband Terry, and Angie Reed-Rhodes; four siblings, Louise Biggs, Saundra Simmons, Judy Allison and Bill Benge and wife Dorothy; two grandchildren, Bryan Adams and Tamatha and Christy Keys and Billy; five great grandsons, Justin Adams, Dakota Keys, Denim Adams, Brystol Adams, and Cash Keys; two great granddaughters, Lexy Keys and Katy Carey and Ricky; seven great great grandchildren; Padon, Kaylee, and Jazzy Adams, Brooklyn, Brayden and twins Braxton and Baker Joe Carey; and many other friends and loved ones.
