Conwell Burns the daughter of Ervin Conwell and Gertrude (Kyle)
Conwell, was born along with and identical twin sister Alburtia Conwell
Stevens in Marble City, OK on October 3, 1925. Her family later moved to
Stilwell, OK where she was raised,
She departed this life on June 10, 2020, at the age of 94 years, eight months, and seven days. Wilburtia enjoyed life, and had lived in different parts of the world. After she married Rufus U. Burns, a US serviceman, on May 20, 1942, they had a son Melvin W. Burns, and a daughter Berta Kay Burns. They lived in various parts of the world and United States including Anchorage, Alaska, Boca Raton, Florida along with Lincoln, Nebraska, San Antonio, Texas, and Albuquerque New Mexico as well as four years in Alaska and four in Seville, Spain as they followed Rufus in his Air Force assignments. She was a mother, Housewife, and had worked and retired from Mountain Bell phone company in Albuquerque. She and Rufus, along with their son Melvin, established Elk Creek Ranch near Cookson in 1971.
Wilburtia is survived by a loving family which includes her son Melvin Burns and his wife Jeanette; a Daughter Berta Kay Denton; twin sister Alburtia Conwell Stevens; grandson Kevin Michael Denton and wife Misti; and great grandsons Kaleb and Brantley Denton all of the Burns Elk Creek Ranch near Cookson, OK. Wilburtia has been preceded in death by her husband Rufus U Burns.
Wilburtia was a Christian with a joyful personality who never met a stranger. She loved people, reading both the Bible and other biblical writings. She made friends easily and loved everyone she met, especially all those in her associations and members of Cookson Baptist Church. She will be interred at Fort Gibson National Cemetery along with her late husband Rufus.
