 Phyllis Lorene Colburn

Obituary for Phyllis Lorene Colburn

Lorene Colburn was born July 22, 1930 in Hulbert OK to Ray and Gladys (Steely) Collins.
Lorene passed away in Tahlequah on May 19, 2019, at the age of 88 years 9 months and 27 days.
Lorene grew up in the Hulbert Community on her parents small farm. She attended elementary school at Shady Grove School. After graduation from the 8th grade Lorene attended Hulbert High School and graduated in 1948. Lorene always talked fondly of her days in the Shady Grove Community and enjoyed driving through the community with her daughters and nieces in the past few years to reminisce about her childhood.
On June 4, 1948, in Hulbert, she married Lofton Gene Colburn. They shared over 61 years of marriage. In 1952 they moved to the Oil Springs Community where they began building their farm and raising a family.
Lorene loved taking care of her family and neighbors. A large hot meal could always be found on her table every Sunday afternoon and anytime there was cattle to be worked, hay to be bailed, or when visitors came calling.
Lorene and Gene loved being members of the Cherokee County Cattlemans and Cattlewomens Auxillary. Lorene served many years as the Auxillary’s President and was the last living charter member of the association. Very rarely did they miss meetings or social functions associated with the cattlemen's association. And just like at home, Lorene took pride and joy in cooking at the yearly meetings.
In later years after Gene's death, Lorene enjoyed spending time with her family. She continued living in the Oil Springs Community on the farm they started in 1952. She loved watching her granddaughter's family continue working the farm, as she and Gene had.

OBITUARY FOR WILLIAM R. KINNEY

Fayetteville, AR (formerly Keys, OK) Funeral services for William R. Kinney will be held on Friday, May 24th, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Bill Dallas officiating. William Robert Kinney was born on Tuesday, January 15th, 1924 in Mannford, OK, the son of William E. and Ella (McDonald) Kinney. The family consisted of two sisters, Lillian and Walena, and relocated to the Keys, OK community, and it was in Tahlequah, OK, that William graduated from Bagley High School. WWII was in full swing, William was employed as a long shoreman, then the United States Army took William and turned him into a soldier. He would spend 1945 and 1946 in the occupational forces in the Philippines and Japan. He received his honorable discharge and returned to Keys, OK, and would meet and marry his sweetheart and best friend, Sophia L. Dearman. They married in 1947 and raised three daughters, Linda, Rosemary and Tina. William and Sophia were farmers. They raised cattle and hogs, baled hay, and provided for their family while caring for the land. William belonged to VFW and DAV, causes near and dear to his heart. The road to Stone Chapel led home, and this is where William was more comfortable in life. He worked hard, loved his family, and served his Lord and Savior, attending Cherokee Home Mission Church all of his adult life. He was a solitary man, could raise a tomato on a chunk of rock, and was happiest watching the sun rise and set from his own porch. His wife passed in 1997, and he remained with his family until his health no longer permitted him to live alone. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from his labors on Monday, May 20th, 2019 in Fayetteville, AR with his loved ones by his side. He was 95 years old. He will be greatly missed for all the love he gave them.
