Funeral
Service for Robert Charles Smith, 75, of Tahlequah, will be 10:00 am
Thursday April 4, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, Tahlequah.
Officiating will be Rev Matthew Franks. Serving as Pall Bearers are Dr.
Robert Rampp, Mr. Billy Coleman, Jose Lado, Sgt. Coty Bost, Sean
Kenney, and Dr. Randal Rampp. Interment will follow in the Tahlequah
City Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. In lieu of
flowers memorials are requested to be sent to the building fund at First
United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at
Robert was born the son of Charles and Anna (Danto) Smith on January 27, 1944 in White Cloud, Michigan. He died on March 30, 2019 in Tulsa, OK. Following his education and graduation from White Cloud High School in 1962 he entered the US Air Force where he had a career spanning 21 years and six months, retiring as Master Sergeant. While serving in the USAF he earned his associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force, had active duty campaigns from 1962-1984: Cuban Crisis, Dominican Civil War, Vietnam, and Lebanese and Grenada Invasions, retiring in 1984. He was field promoted in 1982, while assigned to the Headquarters (IG) team) in Korea, to permanent grade of Master Sergeant. RC said, ”The travel and history of being assigned to over a dozen AF bases worldwide has been an honor, and to be selected to proudly serve my country."
Four years after his discharge he married Nancy on Nov. 25th, 1988, in Metairie, Louisiana. Post discharge he had a 15 year career with the Department of Energy, Strategic Petroleum Reserve, retiring in 1999, was a life member in VFW and American Legion, and a member of the First United Methodist Church. RC enjoyed golf, travel, telling stories, playing cards, and being with his family.
Preceding RC in death are his parents Charles and Anna Smith and a brother Leonard.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of the home; children, Dr. Randal Rampp and wife Donna, and Robin Kenney and husband Sean; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; two brothers Sid and Roger Smith, as well as many other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
