Gary
Martin Maize was born in Oklahoma City, October 3, 1951. He passed from
this life on June 25, 2019, from his home in Briggs, Oklahoma at the
age of 67.
Gary was a 1969 graduate of Putnam High School. He was one of a kind. He had a genuine and kind soul. His ability to make others laugh was unsurpassed. Gary traveled to all 48 adjoining U.S. states and had a detailed recollection of every place he visited. Gary was an amazing husband, father, step father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend, who always wanted to help make life better for those he loved. He loved deeply and lived to help others. Gary was renowned among friends and family for his brilliant storytelling ability. Seeing the good in others was one of his greatest gifts. Gary gave selflessly and often to his own detriment in his endeavor to improve the lives of his loved ones.
Gary was a retired self-employed construction contractor who had worked in that industry for over thirty years and learned how to be a successful business man from his uncle Bill Woolum.
Gary enjoyed raising various types of birds, most recently racing pigeons, writing poetrym reading, watching boxing and college football. After his son’s death in 2000, he continued raising his son’s small herd of cattle on the family farm. On the day of his deathm he spent the morning repairing a spring at the family farm and tending those cattle.
Gary would often remind those going through difficult times to remember that no matter what “Life is beautiful”. One of his favorite quotes was “To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.”
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Jessie N. Maize in 2004, his mother Mary Jane Woolum Maize in 2003; and his son Jessie D. Maize in 2000.
He is survived by his wife Roberta Studie-Maize of the home in Briggs; three step children, Bailie Studie, Ricky Studie, and Saiane Studie; daughter, Amber Margarit and husband Anthony of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Austin Maize of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Avery Maize of Norman, Oklahoma; a great-granddaughter, Atlanta Siegel of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; the mother of his children, Patti Holderby Tate; as well as many other friends.
Gary will not be defined by his death. His memory will live on through his stories, advice, and life lessons he shared with all who knew him.
No services are planned, Gary’s wishes will be honored and he will be cremated and his ashes spread where he requested. If you would like to share a story or life lesson learned from Gary for the family to cherish please submit an email to garymaizememories@gmail.com
