JESS

age 77
of Hulbert, OK. Died Monday, September 23rd, 2019 in Hulbert, OK.

Housekeeping Supervisor at Cherokee Nation.
Funeral services for Jess Jim Oosahwe
will be held on Thursday, September 26th, 2019 at 10:00 AM at
Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Bill Pettit officiating. The family will
have a visitation on Wednesday, September 25th, 2019 beginning at 1:00
PM until 6:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at
Towie Cemetery in Tahlequah, OK. Online condolences for his family may
be left at www.reedculver.com.
Pallbearers for Jess include Phillip Oosahwe, Mykiah Oosahwe, Thaden Oosahwe, Willard Oosahwee, Preston Oosahwee and Andy Oosahwe Jr. His Honorary Pallbearers include Chuck Bread, Gary Littledeer and Tim Muskrat.
Jess Oosahwe passed from this world on his next journey September 23rd at 1:00 am at the young age of 77 years. He leaves behind many people who loved him very much and will miss his mischievous smile and jokes.
Jess was born to Wilson and Dessie on July 28th, 1942 at home in rural Oklahoma. Dad spoke fondly of his early childhood memories from helping his dad and mom, to torturing his siblings. He had many adventures as a child, from riding in wagons to venturing to town for a special meal. It sounds he became a great ball player as a teenager. I heard the stories from relatives and friends my entire life and was often compared against him. After High school, he attended a University in Kansas for a brief time. Those years I have not heard many stories from, but if I know my dad, they were entertaining. He joined the Navy and served in Vietnam. He did not talk much about those times and I asked a lot growing up. Later in life, he opened up and we talked about those years, but these stories are for my ears only. He was very proud he served his country. After he returned home, he was married for a short time and had two sons, Chris and myself, and he loved us dearly. He raised us with help from siblings and relatives in a time when it was unheard of to have a single male parent. I would not have had it any other way. As he went on through life raising one son while the other went to stay with the mom, I know it hurt my father. He did come back to us, which I know made my father whole again. As the years went on and he gained more grey hair and life experience, he softened and enjoyed life. He married Nancy and we gained a lovely woman in our lives. They adopted two young children and the rest is history. Dad loved those two babies like he loves Chris and me. I am saddened that they only got to see his love for a short time. He had many hobbies, but the main involved his Cherokee heritage, from arts and crafts to weaponry. His main expertise was Cherokee blowgun/darts, for which he is recognized as a Cherokee National Treasure forever. He loved dancing at powwows and was a very avid golfer. He got me interested in both of these as well as teaching the traditional arts. Over the years, we talked and I asked for advise during many of our powwow trip in the early years and our golf outings in later years. I just loved being around that old man.
Family consists of his wife, Nancy, children, Phillip (myself), Kash, and Kahli, his sister, Georgia, half siblings, Wilson, Doris, daughter-in-law, Ruth, grandchildren, Mykiah, Thaden, Ellery and Rosie and many other relatives. He has met in the next journey, his father, mother, two brothers, sister, son and many other relatives to keep him busy.
He is the best man I know. He has touched so many lives as can be witnessed with the people stopping in to see him in. When I finish my time on this planet I hope I have become half the man/father my father is. He is my Father as well as Mother (figure) and best friend all in one person.
These are the memories and stories from my perspective (Phillip).
Dad I know you will not see this, I have always followed in your footsteps and you were always and forever my Hero. I Love You Dad.

Shirley Ann Talbott Parris began this earthly life on Sunday, August 28, 1938 on a wheat farm five miles south of Enid, OK, the daughter of Iretta Talbott. Shirley and her mother later moved to Tulsa, OK were she attended Central High School. After graduation, she met and married L.S. Parris on Friday, May 8th, 1959 in Tulsa. Together they enjoyed 60 years of memories and love. This union was blessed with two sons, Rick and Mark. Shirley took pride in being a good mother to her boys and was a wonderful wife and companion to L.S. Shirley worked for many years as a Laboratory Technician for a doctor’s office in Tulsa. When she wasn’t working, she loved any opportunity to be outdoors, camping or fishing. Shirley loved animals, especially dogs, and always had one close by, nothing beat cozying up to her canine companion, Boss Man, with a good book. She had a beautiful display of angel figurines she collected. You could always count on Shirley to lighten the room with her jovial and happy go lucky attitude. There wasn’t a person that she met that didn’t become a friend. If you met her once, it was like you had known each other for years. There wasn’t a morning she didn’t stop in for a cup of joe at her favorite coffee shop, Happy Corner. On Saturday, September 21st, 2019, Shirley enjoyed her last cup of coffee here on earth and is now joining the angels in Heaven. She was 81 years old and her smile will carry on in the hearts of everyone that had the joy of knowing her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her mother and youngest son, Mark Parris.
She is survived by her husband, L.S. Parris of the home in Mannford, OK, and one son, Ricky Parris and wife Deanna of Mannford, OK and a host of friends and loved ones.

Carter. She grew up in the Carter Community south of Tahlequah, OK.
Patsy had a happy childhood. She went to elementary school in the one
room Carter Elementary School with many cousins. She attended Baggley
High School for two years and graduated from Tahlequah Central High
School in 1954.
In 1953, she met Ronald Dean Smith and they were married on November 25,
1953. Ronald joined the United States Air Force in February, 1954.
After his basic training, they were assigned to Scott AFB in Belleville,
Illinois. It was a new experience for Patsy. It was the first time she
had been away from home. Together, they started their new life in a
rented apartment in Belleville.
After 18 months at Scott AFB, they were transferred to Harlingen, Texas
in the Rio Grande Valley. Patsy fell in love with Harlingen with the
Citrus Fruit and subtropical weather. Their stay there was short,
however, when Ron was sent to Korea for a year. Patsy returned to
Tahlequah to wait for his return. Upon his return, they were sent to
Donaldson AFB Greenville, South Carolina. Ron was discharged in
February, 1958. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas where Ron Started
working for IBM.

house. Ron was anxious to return closer to their relatives. In 1960 they
transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the 34 years Ron worked for IBM,
they attended many IBM schools around the country. This allowed them to
see many different parts of the United States. They loved to go camping
and fishing. Patsy loved to fish for crappie and they spend many days
fishing together.
After Ron’s retirement in April, 1992, they purchased a motor home and
began spending the winters in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. It
was there that Patsy accompanied Ron to “Jam Sessions” around the
Valley where Ron picked his guitar and sang. She made many “Winter
Texan” friends from all around the country. She also enjoyed vacationing
in Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. She loved the country, the
people, the food and music in this area. She possessed a smile that
would light up a room and a warm heart. Patsy made friends no matter
where the road would lead her. A Christian by faith,Patsy and Ron were
long time members of the Eastside General Baptist Church near Catoosa,
OK.
The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on
Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Tulsa, OK. She was 83 years old.
She was proceeded in death by her folks RC and Margaret Carter and a
brother, Jerry Carter.

While he was there, he played football and wrestling for the Sequoyah Indians. Mike worked as a wood craftsman for several companies including Keller-Williams. He had the fun of designing a bed for Tom Cruise to use in the making of “The Outsiders”. When the day was done, he wanted to go home to his family of five daughters and one son. He was a genuine people person, and he had a wicked sense of humor, and loved to joke around. He loved packing up his children and the neighborhood kids and grabbing up the fishing poles. He coached basketball and softball for his daughters, and helped coach football at Cleveland Middle School. He could shoot a game of pool with the best of them, was an avid OU football fan, and had a knack for entering contests and actually winning prizes! He would take trips with his brother and visit Shriners Hospitals in Houston, Shreveport, and St. Louis. He was a member of the Son of the American Legion, and even found time for a second job as a surveyor. That which made him the happiest was his wonderful family. Every holiday found him gathering with his brothers, sister, and his children and grandchildren. He loved taking his children and their children out for a meal, just to talk and share their day. He had a servant's heart, volunteering at the Rehabilitation Center in Tulsa. Mike attended church at the Bowen Indian Baptist Church when he had the chance.
