Mike Gourd was born on Wednesday, August 4th, 1954, in Tahlequah, OK at Hastings Hospital, the son of Tandy R. and Emma Lee (Downing) Gourd. It was a large and happy household, boasting seven son and one daughter total. He attended and graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1972. While he was there, he played football and wrestling for the Sequoyah Indians. Mike worked as a wood craftsman for several companies including Keller-Williams. He had the fun of designing a bed for Tom Cruise to use in the making of “The Outsiders”. When the day was done, he wanted to go home to his family of five daughters and one son. He was a genuine people person, and he had a wicked sense of humor, and loved to joke around. He loved packing up his children and the neighborhood kids and grabbing up the fishing poles. He coached basketball and softball for his daughters, and helped coach football at Cleveland Middle School. He could shoot a game of pool with the best of them, was an avid OU football fan, and had a knack for entering contests and actually winning prizes! He would take trips with his brother and visit Shriners Hospitals in Houston, Shreveport, and St. Louis. He was a member of the Son of the American Legion, and even found time for a second job as a surveyor. That which made him the happiest was his wonderful family. Every holiday found him gathering with his brothers, sister, and his children and grandchildren. He loved taking his children and their children out for a meal, just to talk and share their day. He had a servant's heart, volunteering at the Rehabilitation Center in Tulsa. Mike attended church at the Bowen Indian Baptist Church when he had the chance. The Lord called this kind and thoughtful man home from his labors on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 in Tulsa, OK with his loved ones by his side. Mike was 65 years old.
