Donnetta Sue Gifford was born on November 30, 1968 in Claremore, OK. The daughter of Alvin David "Junior" Adney and Floy Syble Hammond-Dobbs. Donnetta attended school at Tahlequah High School. Upon graduation, she held secretarial jobs and later worked for Cherokee Nation Early Head Start as a Budget Analyst. She became a homemaker after becoming unable to work and cared for her daughter and dogs. Donnetta was a firecracker and did not have a problem saying what was on her mind at any time. Donnetta was a fun person, full of life. She loved her daughter dearly and that was her whole world. She missed her son, Michael, who was taken home by angels after only a brief time with her. There was never a day that went by she didn’t think of him and carried on his memory with those around her, talking of her son in Heaven. Donnetta enjoyed many things in life including painting, making home decorations for her family members, doing things with her babies as she dearly referred to as "Nana's Babies.” They brought so much brightness and joy into her life. Donnetta read her bible and talked about the bible with others as well, especially with her sister Diana, whom she was very close to and held dear to her heart. She was not a member of a church. To her, she had God right there in her bible and heart. She held her faith in God even if she questioned him as many others do, but she continued her walk with the Lord. Before Donnetta passed, she refused to let her sister, Diana bring her home from the hospital until she was baptized and officially gave her life to God by her friend Darryl Barnes. Donnetta enjoyed life the best way she knew how with her favorite people around her. Donnetta passed from this earthly realm on June 22, 2019 in Tahlequah, OK after a battle with cancer, at her home. She was surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, brothers, sisters, mother, and "Nana's Babies" which was her final wish. She went peacefully home to be with the Lord where there is no more pain and suffering, just joy.
Donnetta is preceded in death by her son, David Michael Anthony Adney-Lowrey, her father, Alvin David "Junior" Adney, her grandmother, Flora Ann Tiger, and step-father, Earl Edward Dobbs which is with them now dancing and rejoicing.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kristie Smith and husband Wade whom she dearly loved and referred to as her son, her grandchildren, "Nana's Babies", Jamesha, Jameer, Kavari, and Kaliyah all of Tahlequah, OK. She also leaves three sisters, Diana Blakley and husband Charles of Hayti, MO, Mary Mott and husband Dennis of Hayti, MO, and Cindy Tiger of Braggadocio, MO, two brothers Donnie Adney and wife Deina of Hulbert, OK and David Adney and wife JoDee of Clinton, OK. Her memory lives on through many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much along with a special fur-baby, Dutches, who was very near and dear to her. She leaves behind several friends and a special friend who they even named each of their daughters after, Christie Vaughn, and a very special person, Lametria McDowell for letting her have all the time she wanted to spend, sharing her joyful children with her as "Nanas Babies".
Her daughter and son-in-law would like to give a special thanks to Aunt Mary, Cindy, Deina, JoDee, Uncle Donnie and David for everything they have done to fulfill mom’s wishes along with being here to help hold everything together. Aunt Diane, we just want to say a huge thank you for being here for my mom night or day and being here anytime us or mom needed you. We love each of you very much. Also Bob, Debbie and Donnetta Green, for helping in any way they can. Sorry if anyone was left out. This is the hardest thing for me to do. So to any one I missed, we love you and thank you so much for everything.
