Ruby Florence McCoy-Jamison was born on Tuesday, July 31, 1934 in Oilton, TX, the daughter of Jimmie Randolph and Roxie Grace (Raynor) McCoy. She was raised in a household with one brother, Charles and two sisters, Joan and Cubie. The family resided in Texas working in the oil fields but would later relocate to the Ft. Gibson area. The family traveled a great deal, working the farms and ranches in the area. In 1952, Ruby fell in love and married her best friend, JD Jamison, in October, in the Grandview area. Together they spent 67 years together, building a home and raising two sons and two daughters. Ruby began her career in the food service industry at Sequoyah Elementary and finished her final 21 years of service at Northeastern State University. She loved people, and it showed. Her smile was ready for anyone that needed it, and she had a quick wit and a sense of humor that made everyone’s day a little brighter. When she wasn’t working, she was the best wife, mother, and grandmother, always spending time supporting her children and grandchildren, it didn’t matter if it was basketball or softball, she was there.
Over the years, she enjoyed gardening, paint pen art, collecting McCoy pottery and researching her genealogy. She loved traveling and camping on family vacations in various states but mostly Colorado and the local lakes and river. She liked music, and enjoyed a wide variety from Southern Gospel to Patsy Cline and Elvis. She never spoke an unkind word about other people, always took care of those around her, and always did her best every day. She was a Christian by faith and attended Double Springs Church of God, First Assembly of God and was a member of 29 Eleven Church. Her health had declined and the Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on Friday, June 7, 2019 at her home surrounded by the family she loved so very much. She was 84 years old.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother Charles McCoy, sister’s Joan McCoy and Cubie McCoy-Dodd and her grandparents. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, JD Jamison of the home, and four children, Lonnie Jamison and wife Janet of Tulsa, Neta Jamison and spouse Joan Baker of Watts, OK, Randy and wife Amy of Tahlequah, OK, and Denise Thomas and husband Chuck of Oklahoma City, OK. She lives on in her seven grandchildren, Heidi Turney, Hilarie Jamison, Laura Hightower, Duane Jamison, Christopher Thomas, Michael Thomas, and Abigail Jamison. Ruby lives on in her seven great grandchildren, Damon Ballou, Jazlynn Ballou, Ahni Ballou, Katelyn Turney, Colton Turney, Rohland Hightower, and Kinsey Turney, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.
