He was raised by his Pop, John Osage and Ida (Whitekiller) Smith and was the son of Patrick Smith. He had three brothers and three sisters, and attended Chilocco Indian School. He graduated and then began his college studies. He met a lovely young lady, Jackie Louise Smith and together, they had three sons and one daughter. They were together 51 years. George worked in construction, and could build and weld with the best. When he wasn’t working, he could be found golfing a round, fishing or hunting a deer. He was always working on something around the home place, trying to make it run better. When the season changes to fall, there was no finer OU fan than George and he was the same with the Sequoyah Indian Athletes. He often grabbed his granddaughter Carolina, and headed to the fishing hole, they spent the day picking on one another, and he never missed a chance to cheer her on at competitive swim meets. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was the person that everyone knew. He loved people, and talked to everyone he knew or didn’t know for that matter. When the summer rolled around, he couldn’t wait until the family would all gather together and do a BBQ, spending the day telling stories. He was easy going, and didn’t have a mean bone in his body. He passed from this life on Thursday, July 4th, 2019 in Tahlequah, OK, with his family by his side. He was 85 years old.
He is preceded in death by his son, Michael James Smith, father, mother, brothers Hastings Smith Shade and Pidgeon Keener and his wife Maggie, sisters, Evelyn Downing and her husband Cornelius and Edna Foster and her husband Bob, and grandchildren Cody Isaac Smith, Ethan Issac Smith and Cheyanna Smith.
He is survived by his wife Jackie Louise Smith of the home in Hulbert, sons, Johnny Lee Smith of Hulbert, OK, Jody Isaac Smith of Hulbert, OK, and daughter Georgette Ingrid Smith of Tahlequah, OK. George leaves his brother Joe Dee Smith, and sister Beverly Joann Shoaf and husband Vernon of OR, grandchildren Carolina Sa-Ki-Ya Smith of Tahlequah, OK, Holli Smith of Wyoming, Autumn Smith of Wyoming two other grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
