Obituary for Maxine Kaye Hayes

Funeral services for Maxine Kaye Hayes are 2:00 pm Wednesday July 3, 2019, at Green Country Funeral Home with Reverend David Jones officiating. Pallbearers are Damon Hayes, Jake Ellexson, Codey Kelley, Alec Bailey, Caleb Bailey, and Hunter Hayes. Honorary pallbearers are Zack Ellexson, Cody Hayes, Dylan Hayes and Jesse Kelley. Interment will follow in the Ray Cemetery at Sequoyah State Park under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
Maxine Kaye Hayes was born in Braggs, Oklahoma on October 19, 1940 to Ed and Lillian (Lawley) Craig. She passed away peacefully on June 29, 2019 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years 8 months and 10 days.

Maxine grew up in the Double Springs and Qualls areas where she attended school before graduating from Tahlequah High in 1958.

On January 12, 1961, she married Bill Hayes in Tahlequah and shared 46 years of marriage at the time of Bill's passing. She and Bill were generous with their home, always opening it to family and friends, helping out those who needed a hand.

Maxine liked to bowl and dance.

A career hairdresser Maxine worked 42 years and had owned and operated her shop for 33. She also worked at the Dollar Store and Braum's. Maxine was dedicated to her work and family. The last few years of her life was spent at the Cherokee County Nursing Center where she made more family members who loved her as their own family.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; five siblings, Shirley McKinnley, Gail Chapman, Pete Craig, Howard Craig, and Rick Andrews.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Tami Haley and Drew of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Bill Hayes Jr. and Angi of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, David Hayes and Brandy of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Whitney Shaw and Ron of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Lance Hamby and Robin of Welling, Oklahoma; she also leave 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and a host of friends and loved one too numerous to mention.
