Carol Jean Brown Winsett was born on Monday, May 6th, 1940 in Moody, OK, the daughter of Carl Herman and Clara Myrtle (Gardner) Brown-Harmon. She attended school in several areas including Lowery and Tahlequah, and grew up in a household with four brothers and two sisters, She completed the eighth grade, and then decided it was time to go to work, as times were really hard. She met and married the love of her life, Elmer Ray Winsett Sr. on May 18th, 1958 in Huntsville, AR. Together they would raise a family of nine children. There was nothing that made her happier than taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren. She was quite the cook, you haven’t properly been fed until you settled in to one of her famous friend chicken dinners, complete with light as air biscuits and gravy. Then you followed it all up with hot cherry or apple pie right out of the oven! She was gifted with a crochet hook and loved to make beautiful designs. She was thrifty and raised large gardens full of fruits and vegetables and the prettiest flowers. She sold her excess milk, butter and eggs she had on the farm at the farmers Market every chance she got. When all the work was done, Carol enjoyed a good puzzle, playing cards to all hours of the night with her family, and most of all, camping! There was nothing better for Carol than grabbing the sandwiches, the kids and grandkids, and heading out for a weekend of relaxation at Horseshoe Bend. Carols second favorite pastime, flying with Billy, and looking down at the tiny houses far below. Holidays were her favorite because she could gather the ones that made her the happiest, and spend time sharing a meal, and just being together. She would occasionally indulge in a casino trip, and liked people watching and just seeing them having a good time. Elmer passed in 1993 and she remained with her family until her health began to fail her. She passed from this life on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 at her daughters home. She was 79 years , 8 months, 3 weeks and 1 day old. She leaves a void that will never be filled.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Harley Edward and Viney (Collier) Gardner and William James and Nora Lucretia (Hobbs) Brown. She is also preceded by her mother, father, husband Elmer, brothers Donnie and Calvin Brown, one grandson, two granddaughters, one great grandson, and one son-in-law, Herbert Gary Don Neugin.
Those left to cherish her memory include the her children, Jessie Gene Winsett and Margaret of Tahlequah, Elmer Ray Winsett Jr of Watts, OK, Lottie Earlene Wilson and husband Lloyd Wilson Sr. of Wagoner, OK, Barbara Sue Barron Of Stilwell, Clara Denise Watson and husband Michael of Keys, OK, Billy Wayne Winsett Sr. and wife Sara of Morris, OK, Linda Kay Hobbs and companion James Baird of Stilwell, OK, James Franklin Winsett of Tahlequah, and David Allen Winsett and wife Rhiannon of Hulbert, and one step daughter, Donna Sue Garner of Muskogee, OK.
