Dewey
Alberty was born on March 30, 1926, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to Samuel
and Mary (Redbird) Alberty. He departed this life on January 26, 2020
at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 27 days.
Dewey lived at the Sequoyah Orphanage and Training School and at age 16 Dewey’s mother approved his entry into the United States Navy where he served in WWII and Korea. Following an honorable discharge, he attended Bacone College in Muskogee. Following his graduation there he enrolled at Oklahoma University where he earned his Sociology Degree.
Following his education years Dewey began working at American Airlines as a mechanic and he retired after 34 years of service with them.
Dewey Married Sue Ann Grigsby on February 2, 2000 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Dewey loved to play the harmonica. He enjoyed working with children and taught them about the bow and arrow.
He was a fan of OU, and in the years past he liked to golf.
Dewey enjoyed family and the time he spent with his grandkids.
He was a Christian and was active in the Elm Tree Indian Baptist Church.
Dewey is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Mary; a daughter, Sue Ann Alberty; four siblings, Ahniwake Benge, Lucretia Alberty, Eugene Alberty. And John Alberty Fortune; and his first wife Maggie (Proctor) Alberty in 1996.
He is survived by his wife Sue Ann of the home; four children, James Alberty of Portland, Maine, Kristi Sayers and husband David of Portland, Oregon; David Alberty of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Ann Saunkeah also of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sue Ann’s three children , Larry Brannon and Marcia of Broken Arrow, Jack Brannon of Tahlequah, and Brenda Champlin and husband Fred of Tahlequah; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and sister Maxine Harshaw of Muskogee, Oklahoma; as well as many extended family members, friends and loved ones.
