Obituary for Jeanetta Lu Sunday

Jeanetta Lu Sunday, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully, in her bed early Saturday morning January 11th, 2020 at her home in Tahlequah, she was 78. She was born on Monday, December 29, 1941 to Homer and Mattie Davidson in Checotah, OK. Jeanetta grew up on the family farm south of Checotah on Texanna Rd. She attended Checotah Public Schools graduating from Checotah High School in 1959. After high school she moved to Tahlequah, OK where she attended Northeastern State University and soon after married Nick Sunday.
Jeanetta and Nick traveled a lot, having 2 children along the way. Nick Jr. was born in Tahlequah in 1960 and daughter Kim was born in Kansas in 1962. Soon after, they lived in Tulari, Californina for a brief time before returning to Oklahoma in 1966.
Jeanetta was very bright and had many talents. She worked for the Tahlequah Pictorial Press News Paper for a few years, then worked for Green Leaf Nursery in the 70’s, while she also managed the Barren Fork Motocross track in Welling. Soon after she worked for Joe Enlow as a CPA. She spent most of her years in Tahlequah working for Wilma Mankiller at Cherokee Nation.
She was divorced from Nick Sunday in 1980 and remained unmarried for the rest of her life. However, she never divorced the Sunday family. Many of her sisters-in-laws have remained her best friends throughout her life.
Jeanetta continued to hone her skills as an accountant and book keeper, she took these skills to Tulsa, where she worked for E&I sales as the company Comptroller. She lived in Bixby, Ok where she attended Bethany Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. She was a member of the choir and sang annually in the Living Christmas Tree.
In the last 5 years of her life, she began to slow down as she moved back to Tahlequah to be near more of her family, especially her great- grandchildren. She continued to work part time as an office Manager for her Grandson Trae Ratliff at his insurance agency.
Jeanetta had many hobbies which included singing, cooking, sewing, and quilting. Although what she loved the most was immersing herself into the lives of her grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was selfless with her time, advice, hugs, support and her love. She even helped build a Habitat for Humanity home for a close family friend.
Jeanetta was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harley, Earl, Pete, and Garland; Her sisters, Aileen, Faye, Pearl, and Betty. She is lovingly survived by her daughter Kim Chance and her husband Troy of Dallas Texas; Her son Nick Sunday Jr and his wife Laurie of Haymarket Virginia. Her Grandchildren; Trae and his wife Magen, Kyle, Madison, Makenzi, Michael, Kristina and Sonja. Her Great Grandchildren; Maddison, Ryker, Aislyn, Alexander, Alma, Ace and Asher. Jeanetta is also survived by her “Younger” twin brother Jerry Davidson and his wife Carolyn of Checotah; her sister Ann Kinsey and her husband Don of Sapulpa; her sister-in-laws, Margaret and Sue Davidson of Checotah as well as many nieces, nephews, a lifetime of friends and of course The Sunday Clan.
